Lessons from the professionals


Our professional golf staff strives to go above and beyond for anyone who plays a round of golf at River Landing. Staff members always have warm and friendly smiles on their faces as you enter the shop to check in. Even if it is your first time playing golf, the staff goes the extra mile to make you feel comfortable on the course. Lessons are also offered to anyone who is interested in improving their game. Golf should be enjoyed. River Landing’s professional team is focused on making golf easier to learn and getting the most from your golf experience.  Below are a few videos that will help you get to know the professionals better, and learn a few tricks for the course at the same time. 

Meet the Team

Larry George
Director of Golf
Head Golf Professional

Larry George has been a Golf Professional for 25+ years and loves to play and teach the game! He came to River Landing in 2003 and has enjoyed everyday interacting with the membership and their guests. He and his wife Patty love to travel either playing tournament golf, skiing or just visiting family & friends.

Marshall Stott
Assistant Golf Professional

Marshall Stott is North Carolina born and bred, growing up in Greensboro around the game of golf. He attended Louisburg Junior College where he played two years for the golf team. After graduating from Louisburg, he landed at UNCW and graduated in 1997. His golf career began in February of the same year as an Assistant Golf Professional at the Country Club of Landfall. He feels very fortunate to come to work every day, doing something he truly loves. In his spare time, he loves spending time at the beach, heading to the baseball field, or traveling with his wife Kris and kids Hollis and Sawyer.

Jeff Hale
Assistant Golf Professional

Jeff Hale grew up in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and was introduced to the game of golf at Sawgrass Country Club. He attended Episcopal High School of Jacksonville before going to Coastal Carolina University. He received his Class A PGA Certification in 2013 and has been an employee of River Landing since October 2009.

Mike Taylor
Assistant Golf Professional

Michael Taylor grew up in the small town of Ashland, Virginia, where the only trouble you could get into was the water hazard on hole 11. He played of the golf team at UNCW where they won the conference championship and went to the NCAA’s his senior year. Outside of work, he spends his days with his wife, Courtney, fishing, and doing yard work. He looks forward to his continued work with the membership and their guests, whether it be as simple as getting coffee creamer or running a member tournament!

Briana Sweeny
Assistant Golf Professional

Briana Sweeny was born and raised in Worland, Wyoming and came to North Carolina to play collegiate golf at Methodist University. She earned her Class A PGA Certification shortly after graduationg and has been an employee at River Landing since May 2015. She loves to teach, work with juniors, travel and interact with the membership.

Bill Nance
Outside Services Manager

William Nance originally hails from Baltimore, Maryland. He retired from the United States Marine Corps in 2000 and graduated from Professional Golfer Career College in 2012. Bill is currently the Outside Services Manager, having been a member of the River Landing team since 2014, and is married to wife Carrie.

Danny Barnett
Golf Shop Assistant

Originally from Bloomington, Indiana, Danny Barnett retired from Allison Transmission in 2006. He’s had the opportunity to work in the golf shop for the last 11 years and really enjoys working with the membership. As he tells Larry, “I’m old, retired, and living the dream.”
